Check with your landlord.
Give your answer to this question below!
Help – HUGE BT AND SKY complaint – Sky have a tag on my BT phone line that they say is closed and they wont remove or give me a MAC code, BT wont take the tag off. Three weeks of complaining and no further forward. Consdiering just cancelling my line and starting again – any other ideas
Escalate your complaint at BT and the utilities board.
Unfortunately you have what is called a “bad debt address” listed in the credit check listings, especially if BT had to take court action to recover their money.
These can take up to seven years to get removed. There have been instances of this sort reported in the papers over the years, where people who have moved into an address, and have suddenly had their credit stopped.
If you try to go with anyone else they will do the same credit checks and come up with the same result, Bad debt address.
Before you do anything, see what result you get when you do a credit rating check. If it is as I think it is, you will have to write to all the credit checking agencies and explain it to them. [You should be able to find their addresses in the local library or CAB]
If you can supply details of your old address etc they could probably do a credit check for your old address etc, and with a bit of luck they will change the status of your present address.
Trouble is the way things are going at the moment in the UK credit checks are tightening up.
Give Virgin a call, they might help you out, it will have to be Cable broadband though with is still very good in my opinion. If that fails contact this company http://www.mynow.co.uk/index.php, they provide Satellite Broadband or you might want to try 3G Broadband.

I think you should ask you landlord for help. Explain the problem stressing your need for bb and that you did not expect difficulties when you took on the tenancy.
Alternatively, if you live an area with cable coverage, perhaps that is an option.
Finally, have you considered a 3G dongle from T-Mobile, O2 etc?
Thats with most companies, as things like sky, orange, aol all require a BT landline. But if you can get virgin media in your area they install there own lines, so you can get broadband from them. There better then Bt anyway.
buy wireless, since you cant have cable
find unsecured network or buy your own.
Or if you have a 500 foot Ethernet cord and a neighbor has an extra outlet.
Call the local companies that offer it and see if they cover you area..
After that, it’s just about getting the better deal and/ or better provider.
And yeah, ask your landlord for approval i guess.
