I had to change the name for my line rental and to do this bt had to cancel the phoneline and start a new one, a fews days later. In between times the broadband was still working. I don’t use the phone much so want to cancel it but they say I can’t cancel the phone without cancelling the broadband.

you can go on cable if you live in a property with cable you could go to a web site cafe then you could use wireless but if you have got non of that you will need a phone line unless you can afford satellite like the news reporter’s i do not now how that would cost but i would think it would be a lot more plus you would have to set up a satellite dish you would pay to be connected
the only reason y u would need a phone line is if u were using dsl, honestly i think that u should go to comcast or some other company that uses cable modems….a lot better bandwidth which means a better connection…..
get Virgin fibre optic if in your area. tv and phone/broadband . its speeds are greater and downloads quicker.
I am waiting for my BT contract to finish so I can change to Virgin
There are 4 main types of Internet Access in the UK. Dial-up very slow and needs a phone line. DSL fast and needs a phone line. Cable Fast and doesn’t need a phone line but needs a cable connection like Virgin. Mobile broadband which uses a mobile dongle and it connects to the internet using 3G mobile phone technology. Medium and doesn’t need a phone line

Whats to understand? Your dsl runs thru a working phone line. No phone, no dsl hey….dsl is the poor mans broadband. Get cable if you want REAL broadband
