Can anyone explain to a computer ignoramus how broadband connection for laptops works?
Question by New Boots.: Can anyone explain to a computer ignoramus how broadband connection for laptops works?
I think it is time for me to get a lap top. It’s a bit rubbish being stuck in a corner of my living room on the old P.C. so, I have a broadband connection to my house (Virgin Media) If I buy a laptop do I have to get something different.
I know this must sound incredibly thick but I just don’t know anything about it.
TDs? For our Jess? On Y/A? I don’t believe it!

You just need to get a wireless connection. Ring Virgin and they will send you a box with instructions. It sounds easy, but we had to ring up and get help setting it up. But it means you are free to wander round the house with a laptop with no issues.

Ring virgin tell them your leaving cos talk talk are doing a cheaper internet deal and you want to go wireless. They should offer you the wireless router for free. When you get it, it comes with a cd with step by step instructions.
nope
practically all laptops sold these days have both ethernet and Wireless connections.
standard ethernet 10/100/1000
standard Wireless network card N
the above is what you should be looking for, but are all backward compatible.. computers always go backward standard, never up..
I am also computer thick but I have wireless and can also connect my laptop to the box thing with a wire.
My laptop has a button u press to connect it to the internet
It also connects to my neighbours
you will need a wireless box modem.it is pretty straight forward to conect you can do it yourself following the instructions .i dont like media .i opted for the bt-home- hub which was free and also easy to install. you can run your desk top pc and other laptops from the same modem at the same time.
