can anyone explain this to me?
Question by dmcd1104: can anyone explain this to me?
in easy to understand language please. I have two computers at home. They connect via a wireless router. The router on both computers says it is working/we are connected. However one of the computers cannot connect to the internet any more. What could be the reason for one of the computers to suddently stop being able to connect to the internet? I know it is not my broadband provider as I can conncect. Is it a setting on the pc ie not the routers “fault”??? What steps do I need to do to fix it? thank you
I’ve tried restarting the computer and right clicking on the little monitor to fix it and it does connect but says trying to get network address? and stops there.
I’ve now checked my router on the pc that doesnt connect to the internet. everything seems ok
I did ipconfig and the IP address is the same.
Can anyone tell me what should be in the LAN settings box? It is ticked to automatically check but there is nothing in the big white box below. Should there be something there?? if so, what???

well first you can try right clicking on the little monitor icon with waves and click on repair. that fixes most of the problems with wireless networks.
if not you can try restarting your computer.. if THAT doesnt work, then you got some real technical stuff that cant be explained in simple to understand language

Try this.
Disconnect all wireless adaptors in the task bar. Windows Wireless Network Connection should now pop up and take over. This usually works.
Good luck
I suggest you try the following in order:
1) Turn off the router, turn it back on.
2) Check the connection on both of your computers. If the connection is working on only one, is it the one you tested your connection with, without the router connected?
2a) if Answer to 2 is YES, then reset the cable or DSL modem.
2b) if Answer to 2 is NO, contact your wireless router manufacturer for support.
turn off the modem, and the router, leave for a few minutes and plug everthing back in, it should work then!
Your computer could easily have lost connect, its not uncommon in a home wireless network. Also remember that there is a distance limitation on how far the computer can be from the router, the router can hiccup sometimes too. Be aware that in some situations if there is a lot of electrical activity going on, it can interrupt the signal. (ie. TV, cordless phone, other wireless computers.) (My system is old but this does happen to me sometimes.)
For a quick connection fix try this:
First make sure your firewall isn’t causing the problems. (Good place to look first for all issues.)
Go to: Start -> Connect To -> Wireless Connections
Find the connection that has been lost. Click on it. On the support tab, Click Repair and see if that helps.
I would recommend if you’re having trouble with one computer, shut everything down, including the router. Then boot the router, then both computers at the same time. This is useful in many situations and I recommend if your computer crashes, etc, reboot and start from the beginning. This will leave you with less headaches, hopefully!
If you’re still having problems, try going into your router settings (192.168.1.1 in your address bar if its a Linksys) and see if there is a setting that needs to be corrected.
Good Luck
could be your routers firewall is blocking out the pc that cannot connected
on the pc that does not connect got to run>cmd>ipconfig
nothe the numbers it gives you (192.168.xxx) probably
got to your router access page and add that number to the allow all access list.
