Alternatives to broadband over the phone line?
Question by jackal_04: Alternatives to broadband over the phone line?
I have an old BT phoneline which has capped the broadband speed. Could you suggest alternate broadband providers who do not use a phoneline? I have looked at virgin but I am not in an optical fibre zone.

If you are not in a cabled area your options are limited to ADSL using the copper wired phone line. You may find it is possible to get acceptable connectivity over the 3G mobile network but that’s likely to be expensive if you have a requirement for significant data traffic.
Just because you have an old BT phone line doesn’t mean that you have to use BT as an ISP. Try using one of the price comparison sites to see what is available in your area – (the likes of U-Switch etc.). Usually such sites will give you an indication of the maximum speed available to you.
BT = British Telcom?
I’m not to sure about that side of the pond, but over here there is cable broadband available from the CATV companies. There is also cellular data available from the wireless phone companies. And you may be able to get a wi-fi signal from somewhere. I heard about one guy who rigged up a wi-fi cantenna to get wi-fi from the MacD’s down the street.
