A lot of times in homes you have more than one computer and more than one user. If you have a dsl or cable modem you can only connect one user to the internet. There is only one slot, in the dsl or cable modem, where the Ethernet cable is plugged and it would go to the computer. However if you have a wireless router you can plug the Ethernet cable to it and the router broadcasts the wireless signal to as many computers that need to access the internet. All your computer needs is a wireless card to be able to read this signal and connect to the internet. If you connect a wireless network in your home you can also share printers. If the printer has a wireless card then it can be easily added to the network and multiple computers can send jobs to the printer.
